Psion Teklogix Teams up with Vocollect to Provide Voice Recognition to WORKABOUT PRO VIP Product Line

Global supply chain and logistics customers can now utilize the flexible WORKABOUT PRO for voice-directed work along with imaging, RFID and bar code reading

Mississauga, ON – August 8, 2006 – Psion Teklogix (LSE: PON), a global provider of solutions for mobile computing, wireless data collection, imaging and RFID, and Vocollect, Inc., the world leader in voice-directed work, today introduced the WORKABOUT PRO Speech.

The WORKABOUT PRO Speech is a multi-functional, RoHS-compliant mobile device that delivers Vocollect Voice recognition performance on a flexible data collection hand-held computer in a single unit, creating a unique and complete platform for supply chain and logistics customers.

The WORKABOUT PRO Speech is the latest product released under the new VIP (Voice Integrated Platform) brand. VIP is the brand category for Psion Teklogix devices integrating voice technologies such as Speech-Recognition, VoIP, Push-to-Talk and Cellular Voice.

Utilizing the co-developed Integrated Speech Module (ISM) hardware and adding Vocollect’s patented connector for its SR Series headset, the WORKABOUT PRO Speech handheld computer delivers a standard of voice recognition performance and reliability that is unique to the handheld industrial computing market.

The WORKABOUT PRO Speech is fully compatible with the Psion Teklogix software suite, an end-to-end, speech-directed work solution bundled for rugged environments such as warehouses, distribution centers and the supply chain and logistics environment. TekSpeech interfaces with customer host applications to deliver increased productivity.

The two companies collaborated closely to maximize the overall voice performance of the WORKABOUT PRO Speech. The ISM audio circuit has been optimized to run Vocollect Voice at a performance standard virtually equivalent to that of Vocollect’s Talkman wearable computers and has a built-in connection for the industrial grade breakaway connectors of Vocollect’s SR Series headsets. The WORKABOUT PRO Speech utilizes a modular hardware accessory kit designed by Vocollect specifically for Psion Teklogix. It consists of two main components: a Headset Connector End-cap, and the ISM, which was created using Psion Teklogix’ WORKABOUT PRO Hardware Development Kit. This interfaces directly with the main logic board of the terminal.
